Born on November 9, 1955, in São Paulo, Brazil, Fernando Meirelles developed an interest in filmmaking during his architecture studies at the University of São Paulo. Kátia Lund
Born in 1966 in São Paulo to American parents, Kátia Lund graduated magna cum laude from Brown University, where she developed an interest in filmmaking. She began her career as an assistant director on music videos, commercials, and films. Her work on Spike Lee’s music video for Michael Jackson’s “They Don’t Care About Us,” filmed in a Rio de Janeiro favela, inspired her to focus on stories from these communities.
