India, officially the Republic of India, is a country in South Asia. It is the seventh-largest country by area. It has been the most populous country since 2023. Since its independence in 1947, it has been the world’s most populous democracy.

The Indian Ocean bounds it on the south. The Arabian Sea is on the southwest. The Bay of Bengal lies on the southeast. It shares land borders with Pakistan to the west. China, Nepal, and Bhutan are to the north. Bangladesh and Myanmar are to the east. In the Indian Ocean, India is near Sri Lanka and the Maldives. Its Andaman and Nicobar Islands share a maritime border with Thailand, Myanmar, and Indonesia.

Population: ~1.4 billion
