Haifaa Al-Mansour was born on August 10, 1974, in Al Zulfi, Saudi Arabia. She is celebrated as the country’s first female filmmaker. She is also a pioneering figure in Saudi cinema. She earned a bachelor’s degree in comparative literature from the American University in Cairo. Later, she pursued a master’s degree in film studies from the University of Sydney.

Career Highlights
Al-Mansour’s directorial debut, “Wadjda” (2012), is notable for being the first full-length feature shot entirely in Saudi Arabia. The film tells the story of a young girl. She dreams of owning a bicycle. This tale offers a nuanced critique of societal norms. The film garnered international acclaim. It was Saudi Arabia’s first submission for the Best Foreign Language Film category at the Academy Awards.
